The Axis attack first.
The Gradnikova brigade was was returning from Dolenjska and Notranjska at the end of September 1943 when it came across German units at Blažon on Mount Nanos. 12 fighters and a medic were captured in the ensuing battle.
The Germans took them to the nearby village of Vrhpolje and hanged them in chestnut trees around the village church. One, however, managed to escape – can you do it too?
