The Axis attack first.

The worst pressure from the Ustaša was on the 2nd and 1st battalion of the Tomšič’s brigade and 1st Šlander’s brigade that were defending thePoljane pass. Hold your position and don’t allow the enemy to break through.

May 14th 1945

The Partisans suffered huge losses: they lost two companies, 9 fighters were killed, 51 were missing or captured and 11 were wounded, however the Ustaša couldn’t break through the pass so they bypassed it.
This battle with Ustaša was one of the last major battles at the end of WW2 in Europe. Almost 200 Ustaša were killed and 150 were wounded, which badly affected their fighting morale.
